Dear NMFA Families,
It’s a new year with a very different look at NMFA! Many of you have been asking about teacher assignments for the beginning of the year. We are currently working with a quite complicated distance and hybrid schedule.
We are hoping to accommodate as many families as possible, and that means things will not look like they have in the past. Many grade levels will have multi-age groupings with a team of teachers, splitting classes into smaller groups throughout the day.
Here are a few quick notes from our teacher teams about what NMFA will look like to start the year:
Kindergarten and First Grade Teaching Team: Welcome to Kindergarten and First Grade! This year, Ember Russell is teaching hybrid Kindergarten, Polly Sauerwein is teaching distance learning K and 1 and Tori Hart is teaching hybrid First Grade.
Second and Third Grade Teaching Team: We would like to introduce to you our 2nd and 3rd grade team of teachers which includes, Ms. Karg, Mrs. Erickson and Ms. Emery. Mrs. Erickson and Ms. Karg will both be teaching to the second and third graders in the hybrid model. Ms. Emery will be teaching to the second and third grade 100% distance learning students. We are so excited to spend this school year with all of you even though it might look different than we are all used to. We are committed to making this school year the best one yet!
Fourth Grade Teaching Team: Welcome 4th Graders! This year, Kelly Strasser will be teaching special education, Anna Wiatros will teach distance learning, and Ally Sewich and Chloe Hofstad will be co-teaching hybrid students.
Middle School (5-8) Teaching Team: Hello Middle Schoolers! Welcome to NMFA Middle School and a very special welcome to our very first 8th grade class!! We are very excited to start the 2020-2021 school year! We wanted to send you a quick overview of what students and parents can expect to experience in this new format. All students will be in the same classroom for the entire four hours and teachers will rotate into each classroom to hold lessons for Math (Mr. Bartholomew – 5th), English (Ms. Listerud- 6th), Social Studies (Mr. Johnson 7 & 8), and an extra reading group (Ms. Hastings). Science will be added into the schedule for the 2nd Trimester. Each in-person class will be approximately 45 minutes which will allow time for a 15 min breakfast and 30 min lunch/recess/dismissal time.
If your student chose total distance learning, class lessons and assignments will be located in Mrs. Venne’s Google Classroom. This is where students will see posts of lessons and assignments made by NMFA middle school teachers. Mrs. Venne will then hold daily live Google Meet sessions for every grade level.
Teachers will be sending out letters to the students in their classes through ClassTag. Please download this free app and wait for your first message!
