Distance Learning Change Letter

Dear North Metro Flex Academy Families,

Due to the recent dramatic uptick in COVID-19 numbers in Washington and Ramsey Counties, the NMFA Board of Directors approved the following at an Emergency Meeting held on 10/29/20:

  1. Beginning Monday, November 9, all students in 5th – 8th grade will move to a Distance Learning Model.
  2. The week of November 2 – 6, middle school students may attend school as usual, or, change to Distance Learning immediately. We are giving families time next week to make arrangements if needed. Families should notify teachers if students will begin Distance Learning on Monday, or will wait until November 9th. All usual attendance guidelines will be followed next week, and students must report in to teachers according to plans on Google Classroom.
  3. Middle School Distance Learning will continue from November 9 through the end of the trimester on November 24, at which time a decision will be made to continue Distance Learning for Middle School students.

Rationale: As of Thursday, October 29, the 14-day case rate range for our counties is as following:

Washington County: 43.98    Ramsey County: 31.03

Using the guidance used by the Minnesota Department of Health to determine learning models, this data shows that both counties fall into the category of Elementary Hybrid/Middle-High School Distance Learning. As you can see, we are also getting closer to changing all students to Distance Learning. We will continue to keep you informed on changes to our elementary learning model.

An option for NMFA Families: At this time, the Conway Recreation Center and the Sanneh Foundation has free youth programming for ten of our Middle School students to attend three or five days a week. It is required that students be dropped off by 10 a.m. Free breakfast and lunch will be offered, and tutors will be available all day to help with online schooling. If you would like more information, please call Ofir Germanic at 651-368-1598 or fill out an application at https://tms.ezfacility.com/OnlineRegistrations/Register.aspx?CompanyID=4899&GroupID=2794905

Thank you for your continued cooperation in keeping our students, staff, and families safe. Please use safety precautions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, and to get our kids back to school!

Sincerely,
Therese L. Privette
